Christine Dansereau is the first female mayor of Roselle, and was sworn-in to office in March 2015.
A New York native who moved to New Jersey with her two children to provide a better life for them, she is a single mother and working parent and has managed her parental, work and civic responsibilities successfully. She moved to Roselle in 1985 when she purchased her home here.
Her work ethic propelled her into a successful 18-year career in the Beauty Industry where she worked with corporate accounts such as Clairol, Matrix, Nexxus, Paul Mitchell and other major lines to reach their market. During that time she managed a large sales force, developed a successful telemarketing division, developed industry seminars and major trade shows while traveling extensively.
A life-long dream to attend college and receive a degree became a reality thanks to the support of her family and a desire to change her career path to one that serves those in need. She attended Kean University at the same time as her two children obtaining a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology. Her son graduated with a Masters in Physical Therapy while her daughter focused on a Business Degree.
Mayor Dansereau always found time to support her children’s activities volunteering as a girls’ softball coach, Pop Warner fundraiser, band parent, and overall parent team supporter. Currently she supports her four grandchildren’s activities as much as possible.
Mayor Dansereau was a literacy volunteer for the Elizabeth Library where she had an opportunity to work with people from other countries interested in learning English as a second language. During that time she had worked with a young man from Uzbekistan whose family had escaped political tyranny to come to America for a better life. His desire was to go to college obtain a degree and work in the science or medical field. To do that he had to pass an English Proficiency Test. They worked together for almost a year. He successfully entered college and today is a Doctor of Cardiology. To this day, he credits Mayor Dansereau’s efforts in helping him to obtain his dream.
As a speech pathologist, Mayor Dansereau has worked with children and adults with various communication and swallowing disorders from mild to severe. She worked for the Elizabeth School System and later for Visiting Nurse as a home care specialist. She is also an independent consultant working for various health agencies when needed. She has volunteered her time at adult day care centers as a communication partner for seniors and a parent child advocate at IEP meetings.
Mayor Dansereau is a proud grandparent of four grandchildren and loves spending time with them. They are six, eight, 10 and 13 years old. She has had a 20-year relationship with her civil partner who has been a positive support system in all that she holds dear.
Having previously served as Roselle’s 5th Ward Councilwoman for eight years and three years as Councilwoman-at-Large, Mayor Dansereau remains grateful to receive the endorsement of the Roselle community and of her colleagues.
“To be the first woman to hold the office of Mayor in Roselle is an enormous honor, eclipsed only by what I know to be a promising and historic juncture in our Borough’s history. Our goal as Mayor and Council is to move Roselle forward by working hard on the collective goals of our great community and to shine a light on its beauty, diversity and achievements. God Bless us all!”
